The Spianada Square and Vicinity

The statue of Kapodistrias right after the end of Garitsa Bay and after the hotel Corfu Palace. The photo was shot one morning as I was going to the school.
A close shot of the statue. He is looking towards the east at the Albanian coasts and the Old Fortress.
The statue with the Ionian Academy (now Ionian University) behind and at the end of the pink building the white building of the 2nd Junior High School where I work.
A more comprehensive view with the bust of Solomos at the point where once stood the Douglas Column. It was transferred, however, due to landslides. Now the point has been secured with earthworks.
A close shot of Solomos' bust with the Anemomylos area in the background and the south coasts of the island in the distance.
Daybreak from the same area, as I was going to the school. This is the N.A.O.K. area, an athletic association of Corfu town.
A few minutes later.
And yet another few minutes later.
The renowned rotunda at the start of the Spianada square, recently refurbished due to tear and wear from the weather and the salt of the sea. Click on the pictures for a larger view in a new window.
The Spianada Square, the Pentophanaro spot. Pentophanaro = five lamps, due to a lamp post with 5 lamps. A popular meeting point for all youth and not only.
The same spot with the Old Fortress in the background. The shot was taken on an outing of our school.
The fountain of the square with the pavilion in the distance where Corfiot bands perform on national days, speeches are delivered and other cultural events take place.
The renowned Liston at night...
... and during the day from the southern end.
The Liston from the northern end.
The statue of Schulemburg, fortifications master of the Serenissima Republica of Venezia, at the entrance of the Old Fortress.
